Heavy Duty. Refined and Rustic; yet paired down and traditional with a touch of Monticello. Darryl Carter knows about home and living well. His Mantra: a house should be a respite; not a hotel room. Born in Maryland, Darryl Carter is a former attorney turned interior designer whose’s passion to decorate came to a full head when he began to purchase fixer uppers in DC.  A capital house here, an apartment in Dupont Circle and next thing you know: Voila! Career reinvention. As with most iconic inspiration Darryl followed his gut and has since gone on to be featured in dozens of interior design showcases and lifestyle magazines, have his own signature line of fine furniture by retailer Thomasville, and most recently published a coffee table lookbook of Darryl’s signature style called “The New Traditional.” Here are wear and tear images of Daryl’s DC home:

I’ve heard of him, but never paid much attention. His home looks marvelous and welcoming.

Wow, impeccable taste. Refined rustification at its best. One of few interior designers who has successfully taken the often stiff and stuffy, “classical and traditional” design elements and fuses them brilliantly with a fresh and innovative contemporary
touch. A visionary with a nod to the past…
