getting in: the okey doke.

Sound familiar?

I can’t/don’t have time/too busy/but my boyfriend/hubby/partner/mama/ won’t approve/my kids/I don’t have enough money/I’m not smart enough/but it’s already been done/no one will care/only the beautiful are destined for success/my job is a part of a problem/I love TV too much/I can’t take criticism/people will think I’m crazy/I can do it next year/ I can promise it to myself on New Year’s Eve when I’m drunk/it’s simply too late/I’d rather eat/I’d rather sleep/embarrassing and shame will become my middle and last name/I’m not meant to have/I’m not meant to be/I’ll just wait and see.

There isn’t a human being alive who hasn’t experienced the fears of doubt and the mental mix tapes of self worth that come with everyday living. But its when we play these tunes on rinse, recycle, rewash and repeat are when we know we’ve fallen for the ego’s okey doke. When we fall for the okey doke it can deliver disastrous results: windows of opportunity open and close, we wonder where the time went, we let our talents go rusty, and we busy ourselves with other people’s lives by planting our legs in the cement hoping that no one will take notice. But life is a funny thing cause the spirit always notices. It always knows when you’ve given yourself short change. You know why spirit knows? Because the spirit isn’t afraid of greatness and will work tirelessly to help you cash your reality checks.

A little birdie once told me that Fear and Doubt only have the power that you give them.

I love this! Mind if I share it with a few friends?
I have been actively working against falling for the okey doke by consciously pushing myself to make the most of every opportunity, despite the fear and doubt that inevitable rises up each time I make a step in the right direction. Gosh – such inspirational words! You’re great!
