Quote to Live By: “A project is never done; its just due.”
When I first saw Malen’s textile work all I could think was Wow. Like. Zowie. Just Striking. Wow. From the first glance you’ll feel her passionate connection to global and cultural design and after reading this interview you’ll feel her commitment to the influences that have shaped her luxurious work.
On what it is that she does and the inspiration behind it…
After 10 years of working for other rug manufacturers as a rug designer I’m now launching my own collection of Malene B custom handmade carpets to the high end interior design trade. My work is globally inspired, iconic, colorful, textural and bold. Each design is based on my world travels and life experiences and all are available at MalenB dot com.
Malene what are the three adjectives that best describe you.
Bold, Creative, Adventurous.
What are your most cherished possessions?
Photographs from my childhood, world travels and school projects.
What everyday objects could you not live without?
My Ipod, computer and cell phone.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you and what is the best advice you can offer?
I was told that everyone has something unique about themselves and that you have to have enough confidence to believe it. Best advice to give: To follow your passion no matter what anyone else tells you.
Never caught dead buying….
A white castle hamburger and a pulled pork sandwich. I’m a vegetarian.
I splurge on…
Global Art, World Travel, fine dining, fudge, spa treatments, electronics and fancy hotels.
Describe your home decor style...
My space has a global yet glamourous feel. It’s colorful, fresh, and inviting.
And in Get Togetha Fashion if you could have anyone over for dinner alive or dead who would it be and what would you serve?
I would invite my favorite women artists and make it a girls night out. Mira Nair, Lois Mailou Jones, Angelique Kidj, Angela Basset, India Arie, and I would have a global Vegetarian Feast.

I cannot think of a descriptive word worthy enough to describe these works of art – they’re simply breathtaking!
One of these days once I buy my home, I will definitely have to have one of them!
Rock on, lady!
